Video Project – Casting Call

We are currently looking for participants and crew to be part of this critical project. There are two opportunities to participate. Please see ‘Casting Call’ below. Sorry we cannot pay and thus seeking only volunteers.

Casting Call

Opportunity 1:

We are seeking a diverse range of Muslims from all over the Chicagoland area to participate in this video project. We are seeking participants who self identify as Muslim and range in race, ethnicity, gender, age, and “religiousness”. We are looking for individuals and families from heterogenous parts of the “Muslim” world: Bosnia, Algeria, China, Africa, the Middle-east, South and Southeast Asia, Latin America, and mixed-race Muslims. Come as you are — hijabi, wahabi, convert, punk, goth, rockstar, doctor, actor, teacher, emcee, laborers, stay-at-home parent, unemployed, transgendered, queer, straight, political, apolitical, and etc..

Selected participants will be included in the video component of the 1700 Percent Project featuring Muslim portraits. These will be portraits of a range of Muslims who both fit and defy the image of “Muslim” in a post 9/11 world. The shot includes Muslim individuals and families standing in front of the camera, with resilience and defiance. These portraits are of Muslims who refuse to be punished for their heritage. Muslims who refuse to feel ashamed of their faith. They are families who refuse to live in fear. Individuals who refuse to be scapegoated, stereotyped, and profiled. Communities who refuse to be silenced. People who resist all forms of violence.

We are looking to film in an exterior location in the Chicagoland area (TBA) and inside people’s homes (upon consent). Participants will need to be available for 2 hours in April for the video shoot at either an outdoor location in the city of Chicago or in their own homes.

If interested, please submit the following information by March 30, 2010 to

1. Completed Submission Form
2. A good resolution JPEG image of person(s) in the entry form*
*if applying as a family, please include all names and ages of participants and include photos of all family members.
